As Shaddoll supported the Fusion theme, Satellaknight Xyz and Yang Zing Synchros, Qliphoth definitely supports Pendulum and is one of the top decks at this moment.
The Qliphoth are an archetype of EARTH Machine-type monsters that debuted in NECH and are the first to make use of the pendulum mechanic.
This archtype is very powerfull, focusing on tribute summons and bringing the tributes back with pendulum summoning.
First we'll take a look at the normal monsters for the deck:
|
The Main Monsters
Qliphoth Tool- Effect:
Pendulum Effect: (1) You cannot Special Summon monsters, except "Qli" monsters. This effect cannot be negated. (2) Once per turn: You can pay 800 Life Points; Add 1 “Qli” card from your Deck to your hand, except “Qliphoth Tool”.
Not only is this the main search engine of the Qliphoth, it's searchable by Summoner's Art.
Qliphoth Monolith- Effect:
Pendulum Effect: (1) You cannot Special Summon monsters, except "Qli" monsters. This effect cannot be negated. (2) During the End Phase, if you Tribute Summoned this turn: You can draw a number of cards equal to the number of "Qli" monsters you Tributed for Tribute Summons this turn.
With Scout searching every turn, there's a lot of pressure on the opponent. Again, searchable by Summoner's Art or Saqlifice (or Scout if you really don't have any better options left for Scout). For every 'Qli' monster you Tributed for Tribute Summons, you get to draw a card at the end of the turn. The 1/1 scale combined with the 9/9 from Scout, lets you refill your field, search the Qli monster you want to Tribute Summon (with Scout) and quickly refill or expand your hand at the end of the turn. Effect Monsters
Qliphoth Carrier- Effect:
Pendulum Effect: (1) You cannot Special Summon monsters, except "Qli" monsters. This effect cannot be negated. (2) All "Qli" monsters you control gain 300 ATK. Monster Effect: (1) You can Normal Summon this card without Tributing. (2) If this card is Normal Summoned without Tributing or is Special Summoned, its Level becomes 4 and its original ATK becomes 1800. (3) If this card is Normal Summoned/Set, it is unaffected by activated effects from any monster whose original Level/Rank is lower than this card's current Level. (4) If this card is Tributed: You can target 1 monster on the field; return it to the hand.
Search either this card or Saqlifice with Scout for an easy set-up. Next turn bounce a monster when you tribute it. Qliphoth Helix- Effect:
Pendulum Effect : (1) You cannot Special Summon monsters, except "Qli" monsters. This effect cannot be negated. (2) All monsters your opponent controls lose 300 ATK. (4) If this card is Tributed: You can target 1 Spell/Trap Card on the field; destroy that target.
Set-up with Saqlifice. More tribute fodder for the higher level Qliphoth. Tribute so you can destroy your opponent's backrow or free your pendulum zones when necessary. Qliphort Shell- Effect:
Pendulum Effect: (1) You cannot Special Summon monsters, except "Qli" monsters. This effect cannot be negated. (2) All monsters your opponent controls lose 300 ATK. (4) If this card is Normal Summoned by Tributing a "Qli" monster(s), it can make a second attack during each Battle Phase, and if it attacks a Defense Position monster, inflict piercing battle damage to your opponent.
One of the higher level Qliphoth which functions more as a finisher. Being immune to monster effects from monster below Level/Rank 8. Inflicting piercing damage and getting a 2nd attack each turn, if tributed. Qliphoth Disk- Effect:
Pendulum Effect: (1) You cannot Special Summon monsters, except "Qli" monsters. This effect cannot be negated. (2) All "Qli" monsters you control gain 300 ATK. Monster Effect : (1) You can Normal Summon this card without Tributing. (4) When this card is Tribute Summoned by Tributing a "Qli" monster(s): You can Special Summon 2 "Qli" monsters from your Deck, but destroy them during the End Phase.
Summons 2 Qli monsters from your deck to finish off your opponent. Clearing the field with the effect(s) from the Qli monsters you tributed for it. Qliphort Cephalopod- Effect:
Pendulum Effect: (1) You can only Special Summon "Qli" monsters. This effect cannot be negated. (2) All monsters your opponent controls lose 300 ATK. Monster Effect: (1) You can Normal Summon this card without Tributing. (2) If this card is Normal Summoned without Tributing, or is Special Summoned, its Level becomes 4 and its original ATK becomes 1800. (3) If this card is Normal Summoned/Set, it is unaffected by activated effects from any monster whose original Level/Rank is lower than this card's current Level. (4) When this card is Tribute Summoned by Tributing a "Qli" monster(s): You can activate this effect; if your opponent has more monsters in their Graveyard than you do, you gain LP equal to the difference x 300, and if you do, inflict the same amount of damage to your opponent.
Since your monsters almost never go to the grave, due to all (or most) of them being pendulum monsters, the difference can get pretty big. Refilling your Life Points for more Scout uses (if needed) or inflicting big damage to your opponent. Qliphort Stealth- Effect:
Pendulum Effect: (1) You cannot Special Summon monsters, except "Qli" monsters. This effect cannot be negated. (2) All "Qli" monsters you control gain 300 ATK. Monster Effect: (1) You can Normal Summon this card without Tributing. (4) When this card is Tribute Summoned by Tributing a "Qli" monster(s): You can target 1 card on the field; return it to the hand. Your opponent cannot activate cards or effects in response to this effect's activation.
Perfect for getting a safe chain reaction. Tribute Summon this card over your Genomes and/or Carriers, trigger their effects as Chain Link 1 & 2 then trigger it's own effect as Chain Link 3, which cannot be chained to as of its own effect. Apoqliphoth Towers- Effect:
(1) Cannot be Special Summoned. (2) Requires 3 "Qli" monsters to Normal Summon/Set. (3) If this card is Normal Summoned/Set, it is unaffected by Spell/Trap effects and by activated effects from any monster whose original Level/Rank is lower than this card's current Level. (4) All Special Summoned monsters lose 500 ATK and DEF. (5) Once per turn: You can make your opponent send 1 monster from their hand or their side of the field to the Graveyard (their choice).
One of the boss monsters of the qliphoth. Immune to almost everything and gets rid of your opponents monster. Only a few cards can get over this one. Apoqliphoth Skybase- Effect:
(1) Cannot be Special Summoned. (2) Requires 3 "Qli" Tributes to Normal Summon/Set. (3) If this card is Normal Summoned/Set, it is unaffected by Spell/Trap effects and by activated effects from any monster whose original Level/Rank is lower than this card's current Level. (4) Once per turn: You can target 1 monster your opponent controls; take control of it until the End Phase.
The second boss monsters. Like the one before, this ons is also immune to most card (but since it's level 9, a little less immune then towers). Takes control of 1 of your opponent's monsters, so you can go for game. The Spells
Saqlifice- Effect:
(1) Equip only to a "Qli" monster. (2) It gains 300 ATK and cannot be destroyed by battle. (3) The equipped monster can be treated as 2 Tributes for the Tribute Summon of a "Qli" monster. (4) If this card is sent from the field to the Graveyard: You can add 1 "Qli" monster from your Deck to your hand.
Boosts your 'Qli' monsters ATK by 300, but more importantly, makes them indestructible by battle and they can also be treated as 2 tributes for the tribute summon of Qliphoth Disk or one of the Apoqliphoths. Then when it is send to your grave, you can search the 'Qli' monster you need. Laser Qlip- Effect:
(1) During your Main Phase, you can Normal Summon 1 "Qli" monster in addition to your Normal Summon/Set. (You can only gain this effect once per turn.) (2) Normal Summons of "Qli" monsters cannot be negated.
Protects your '(Apo)Qliphoth' from being stopped by Solemn Warning or Solemn Scolding. Gives you another normal summon. The Traps
Qlimate Change- Effect:
(1) Add up to 3 face-up "Qli" Pendulum Monster Cards from your Extra Deck to your hand. You can only activate 1 "Qlimate Change" per turn.
Refills your hand with the 'Qli' monsters you need from your extra deck. Qlipper Launch- Effect:
(1) Until the end of this turn, all Normal Summoned/Set "Qli" monsters currently on the field gain 300 ATK, but are unaffected by other Spell/Trap effects, also their effects are negated.
Gives your Normal Summoned Qliphoth their original ATK back + 300 and makes them immune to other Spells and Traps. Re-qliate- Effect:
(1) If monster is Normal or Flip Summoned, and it is a Level 4 or lower monster: Negate its effects until the end of this turn. (2) If a monster is Special Summoned, and it is a Level 5 or higher monster: Negate its effects until the end of this turn, also banish it when it leaves the field. (3) If there is no "Qli" card on the field, except "Re-qliate", send this card to the Graveyard.
Negates the effect of a monster once. In my opinion, just a weaker Skill Drain. |
Usefull Cards
- Skill Drain - Brings your normal/special summoned 'Qli'-monster's ATK back to normal. Locks some decks.
- Summoner's Art - Searches your searchers/draw power.
- Performapal Trampolynx - Usefull for 2 Scout searches per turn or enabeling your Extra Deck.
- Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon - Search Trampolynx or Scout for a combo, which will be explained later.
- Forbidden Chalice - Brings your normal/special summoned 'Qli'-monster's ATK back to normal + 400 ATK for a surprise counter-attack.
- Turnover Soul - Trigger Carrier/Helix in your opponent's turn + gives you 2 cards.
- Vanity's Emptiness - Stops most decks and since all your Pendulum Monsters will go to the Extra Deck when Tributed or when they would be sent to the grave from the field, it will stay there for a while.
|
Old Ultimate Combo Cards Needed:
- Qliphoth Scout
- Performapal Trampolynx
- Qliphoth Carrier/Helix in hand or Extra Deck
- 2 Empty Pendulum Zones
- Place Qliphoth Scout on a Pendulum Zone, then use it's effect to search Qliphoth Carrier/Helix, depending on your opponent's field.
- Place Performapal Trampolynx on the other Pendulum Zone, then Pendulum Summon all 'Qli'-monsters from your hand and Extra Deck (min. 3).
- Use Trampolynx's effect to return the Scout in your other Pendulum Zone to your hand.
- Place Scout back on the Pendulum Zone and use it's effect to search Apoqliphoth Towers.
- Summon Towers using the Carrier and/or Helix, depending on your opponent's field. Then use their effects to empty it.
- Use Towers's effect to make your opponent send a monster from their field or hand to the grave (before or after you attacked, depending on the field that is left).
This will give you an almost unstoppable monster with a great effect and a (near-)empty opponent's field. |
Now to name the Pros & Cons of this archetype Pros
- OTK potential.
- Lots of search & a little draw power.
- Easy Field Removal once Extra Deck is set-up.
- Can grind out Late game.
- Can protect it's monsters well with backrow.
Cons
- Struggles without being able to search.
- Can be counter-OTK-ed.
|
Overall I think it's a pretty auto-pilot deck, once you understand the main combo's. I hope you'll enjoy reading this guide and I'll update it once in a while. If there are any cards or combo's you think I missed, don't hesitate and either contact me by PM or place a comment below.

| "Vanity's Emptiness - Stops most decks and since all your Pendulum Monsters will go to the Extra Deck when Tributed, Tuned with or Send to the grave from the field it will stay there for a while."
"Tuned with"
How do you expect to Synchro Summon if you can't Special Summon at all?
A bunch of your card explanations just regurgitate what it says on the card. Give us more substance in your explanations.
The combo you discuss is to summon Apoqliphort Towers, except Towers isn't even the reason you play this deck. You should discuss the Qliphort OTK instead, or at least primarily. |
