| Card of the Month 1: Psi-Blocker In a format where often, we see the emergence of single card domination, such as E-Dragons going into a first turn Draccosack, or Evilswarm starting out with Ophion and four set cards, one of which is Pandemic making that oh-so-perfectly drawn Dark Hole useless, a veteran player might cast his mind back to when such cards would not have been an issue, due to the availability of a handy little card called Prohibition. However, this card has several flaws – as a spell, it was vulnerable to MST’s, Trunade, Heavy storm, Breaker, and whatever other Spell/Trap destruction we had present, and still remains present in the game. The solution? A monster version of Prohibition, and hence I give you, Psi-Blocker. So why is Psi-Blocker that much better? Because it uses the word “use” rather than activate or negate. As a judge, allow me to explain the difference – “use” prohibits the card interacting with anything on the field in any way that it is not already doing at the time of activation. In other words, you cannot do anything with the card that was not already happening at the time of activation – with one critical exception – continuous effects, which are negated. In a nutshell, all the card can do is sit there uselessly, with its effects negated – making Dracossack and Ophion massive targets for quick destruction. The one downside to the card might be its relatively low stats, but even with the advantage it gives you around for only one turn, you can make the best of it. |
