| Space Dandy is a 2014 comedy series produced by Bones. To put it in simpler terms the story revolves around our main crew of the space ship Aloha Oe. Dandy, a dandy guy in space; QT, a robot/vacuum cleaner; and Meow, a catlike alien . Together they travel through the galaxy trying to find new species of aliens and register them for money, so essentially they are bounty hunters. Wait.. Bounty hunters.. In space? IS THIS COWBOY BEBOP?! The anime's general director is none other than Shinichiro Watanabe, responsible for that other space bounty hunting anime we all know and love. Don't fall into the trap and try and compare this with Cowboy Bebop though, this is not to be taken seriously at all. Overall I would recommend this to watch. 
There were also a few episodes that were actually pretty serious and had some fairly dramatic moments in them that really got me attached to some of these characters & on some episodes, I found myself trying to think deeper and discover what possible complicated meaning they could have.Now about the music, It was super jazz-like and blended well with the places it was used. It was never awkward in any episode, we were really given a nice assortment of tunes. From blues and jazz to funk and pop, this soundtrack really fits this series perfectly. The opening "Viva Namida" gave us a very funky and dance-like tune, while the ending "X-Jigen e Yōkoso" played us out with a very electronic-heavy pop-funk track.All in all, Space Dandy has been a huge delight despite some of its more noticeable flaws. To be honest, I'm not really a big fan of episodic anime, but this one still managed to keep me very interested, Space Dandy is an anime definitely deserving your time. |
