Thrunduil's Test Results
__________________________ 1st Match Results: 25/50 Six Samurai
Winning/Losing: LOST 3/15
Deck Construction: 8/15
Deck Consistency and Synergy 2/5 Deck Performance 4/5 Creativity and sophistication 2/5
Performance: 14/20 ......
First point I have to make is your deck count is too high for a testing environment. This is clearly an archetype crazy samurai deck. You're using Shien's Advisor, Kamon and Yaichi, Enishi, Shien's Chancellor, Nisashi, Shinai, Mizuho, Six Strike-Triple Impact, Cunning of the Six Samurai, And Great Shogun Shien, all of which are strictly tech plays, and should be used sparingly. It's important to know what's a good card to use in the main deck and what's a bad card. You also have no excuse not to max out on the GOOD advantage cards of the deck, Asceticism of the Six, Six Samurai United, and Double-Edged Sword Technique. These cards will allow you to consistently drop field presence in your first turn. Your protection was lackluster, opting to go with battle traps like mirror force over more consistent plays like compulsory evacuation device and book of moon. You understand that the samurai are most effective when they are out 2 at a time, but double summon isn't the way to go, because it gives you -2 (playing it is -1, playing your next summon is -2). Magatama at 1 is a mistake, should be 2, and fiendish chain could be better replaced with Breakthrough Skill to avoid backrow clog. Even with all of that, you should be maxing shien's smoke signal, and running 2 Reinforcement of the Army to allow you to dig for the right pieces consistently, and you may consider 1-2 soul charge to give you early game field presence. That said, you performed pretty well with what you had, even got a well-established win over me, making good use of the unexpected Shien's Advisor. The only thing I noted was your game 1 misplay, using bottomless trap hole on a safe mecha phantom beast.
Your extra deck isn't terrible. I'd go with Volcasaurus over Wind-up Zenmaioh, and replace Sirius and Chronomaly Crystal Alien with Naturia Beast and Naturia Barkion, two staples in the samurai extra deck that let you control backrow more consistently than Shi En. Other than that, a nice variety of plays in your extra deck to solve different problems.
Only side I noticed was a 2nd magatama. Not bad, but didn't really affect the outcome of the match. Stronger sides that Six Samurai can make against my deck are Maxx "C", to be chained to my token summons, Rivalry of Warlords to stop my xyz plays and stop me from using my hand cards in tandem, as well as stun the OBVIOUS thunder king side-in.
__________________________ 2nd Match Results: 15/50 Warrior Spam
Winning/Losing: LOST 0/15
Deck Construction: 5/15
Deck Consistency and Synergy 1/5 Deck Performance 1/5 Creativity and sophistication 3/5
Performance: 10/20 ......
Again, too high a deck count for a testing environment. You should use 40 cards. Period. Interesting build. Here, you went for warriors that allow multiple summons per turn, in an attempt to make quick synchro and xyz plays. Like in your Samurai deck, this build is not suited to a testing environment as it doesn't generate very much card advantage, and more often than not, minuses too heavily to justify your plays. Points off for using Lightning Vortex and Magical Mallet in a deck that already loses hand advantage. Again, your trap protection seems like a random array of cards with no real solid functionality in mind. Main decking a single copy of Shadow-Imprisoning Mirror when you don't know for SURE the opponent is using dark monsters? This mistake definitely made an impact on your scoring. Again, using double summon when there's no clear cause for it, and extra W.T.F. points for the random magical hats.
Extra deck is almost completely a mirror copy of your Samurai extra deck, with Naturia Barkion being an exception and a heavier focus on warrior synchros. The toolbox is good, one tech you're overlooking is M-X Saber Invoker.
There appears to be no siding for this match. Some good options would be soul drain, mind drain, thunder king rai-oh, and maxx "C". Try harder next time and make it clear what your siding is meant to do to me.
__________________________ Ruling Question: 0/5 Answered Correctly/Incorrectly
Sorry, but a chain resolves in reverse order. The Black Whirlwind was chain link 1, and Book of Moon was chain link 2. Book resolves first, flips Shura down, and Black Whirlwind doesn't resolve because the monster in question isn't face up to verify it's attack points.
Bonuses: 2/2

You have a unique way of using warriors, and I hope to see you develop your decks so they're stronger and more consistant, in addition to being unique. I'd like to invite you to read my classroom thread entitled "How to succeed in RDA" to get a better idea of what it takes to test well and win matches. Best of luck to you! |
