| Ciaosuu! fellow duelist, i was bored and decided to make this thread on how gladiator beast works, its foundation cards, and skeletons PS: do not hesitate for cruel comments since i know i have flaws with this guide Alright lets start of with the contents Contents*Overview/mechanics *What kind of deck it is *Foundation Cards *Support Cards(very few) ( N/A at the moment)(really lazy) *Skeleton *Regards/Concerns * Next 1-3 week deck overview GB Overview - Spoiler:
GB utilize 2 mechanics: Tagging/Switching and Contact Fusion. The first is basically, whenever a GB you control is involved in a battle AND survives that battle, at the end of the Battle Phase of the turn, if they are still face-up after battling and surviving, they can return themselves to the deck to Special Summon another GB monster besides themselves as a replacement. And that is why it’s called tagging. Almost every GB has an effect whenever they are tagged in, and the effect lists: destruction, grave control, stat boosts, and many others. This gives GB their amazing versatility format to format. By tagging in the right GB for the right situation, you can counter your opponent’s plays while advancing your own board position. And each effect is reusable through another tag out. It allows the deck to pinpoint at key weaknesses of a certain deck while maintaining advantage. The second mechanic for Gladiator Beasts is Contact Fusion, the method of summoning the big boss Gladiators. Introduced by Neo Spacians, GBs take Contact Fusion for terms of ease, versatility, and synergy with the tag mechanic. Basically, each GB Fusion Monster requires that you send 1 specific GB monster and 1 or 2 other GBs from your field to your deck to summon it. This is ideal for the tag happy GBs since you either want them on the field for tagging/fusing or in the deck ready to be tagged in. Using this mechanic, it protects your weaker GBs from being run over by combining them into a larger beatstick while preparing them for the next tag in. The downside of this idea is that you reduce your field presence and number of potential GBs that can directly tag out. But your best monsters are your purple ones here so you might as well get used to Contact Fusion. What kind of deck it is? GBs allow for versatile play styles and can easily switch from defense to offense and back depending on the duel state. Lean on the versatility of theme’s toolbox, its consistent search engine, and its ability to recycle cards over and over again and you will find victory often enough. - Quote :
- A Gladiator Beast Deck is a rough and tumble deck. Your Gladiator Beasts will rise, fall, and rise again on a regular basis as they clash with their opponents. Take this lesson to heart as a duelist. You will win matches and lose matches. But keep rising up from the ashes and keep pressing forward as you improve yourself. As a Gladiator Beast Duelist, you are not like the emperor of the arena, who sits invincible and sends out weak words to men who walk life and death. Liken yourself instead to the legendary gladiator Spartacus, who led his fellow gladiators against their oppressors using tact, strategy, and sheer force of will. These brave warriors take their name from their gladius swords, a quick, versatile, and deadly instrument against their many different foes. Wield the deck likewise against whatever challenge you face in the arena. Go forth bravely then, and win in the name of great life and glory for yourself!
Foundation Cards Gladiator Beast Bestiari- Spoiler:
Our most important card of our deck and the only limited GB there is. At glance it looks an ok monster for being 1500 atk with an MST like effect when its tag out. But it’s not about the stats is what is being scared of. The fact that its name is “Gladiator Beast Bestiari” is the reason why it is limited. It’s scary name allows us to access the destructive “Gladiator Beast Gyzarus” and u shall see that other GB guilds will try to search or copy this card’s name. Accessing our lone bestiary isn’t really a problem. There are cards like gladiator beast proving ground/respite, test tiger and even non themed cards like prisma. Gb decks have their ways to summon the mightiest birdie Gyzarus and further will be discussed. Even if this small fry birdie is in your graveyard, you can dish it out by tagging Darius, playing call of the haunted and other ideal stuff to bring it back. We can even bring it back even bestiary is banished thanks to the new era. By sacrificing 2 souls to build the new overlay network we call xyz nowadays. By bringing it back from banish, I meant playing leviair which is much more easier to access than playing D.D.R and other cards like it. Run 1 No exceptions! Gladiator Beast Murmillo- Spoiler:
You can call this fish the partner or rival of our birdie bestiary. Why? It’s because it destroys 1 face up monster on the field ( keep in mind, it includes your field) when its tag out. Though its stats is annoying which makes him a small fry fish and prone to destruction.
Run 1 for smart plays. You do not need 2-3 copies of these, it’ll clog your deck Gladiator Beast Laquari- Spoiler:
Our signature beatstick of the deck and his 1800atk is the reason why he’s the main GB you should attack with. Plus, it gets a 200 atk boost which leads to 2100atk when its tag out to run over cards with 2000atk or lower with impunity. Its valuable stat allows us to tag other weaker GB. Besides, he also serves as a gateway to the mightiest Heraklinos and further will be discussed.
Run 3 Gladiator Beast Darius- Spoiler:
Darius is 2nd of the beatstick power you have in the deck coming in at 1700atk. Same concepts as laquari, it is decent enough to tag other weaker GB. But its ability when it gets tag out is a force that not to be reckoned with(if I said that right). It allows to dish out another GB from your grave but the monster reborned GB’s effect is negated and if darius leave the field, the Rebirth GB leaves the field. These limitations doesn’t do anything to be honest. Allows us to reuse a dead laquari for setting up for heraklinos or maybe even xyz(depends on the situation).it also allows us to bring back bestiary in order to build gyzarus. Heck even revive something weak like murmillo and build the essedari beatstick. Its stats are respectable and synergistic flow. Darius is a must in a GB deck
Run 2-3. Preference Gladiator Beast Equeste- Spoiler:
Flying around 1600atk, it is the smallest beatstick we have in GB. Being winged beast is really notable for plays like Icarus attack for some other players but the effect when it gets tag out where it really shines. It allows us to add 1 GB card(meaning monster /Spell/trap) to our hand. This card is very infamous for its chariot lockdown which I will talk about later. It also recycles other GB like bestiary to safely land it to your hand.
Run 2-3. Preference (most GB players run 2) Gladiator Beast RetiariDuelist: Why?! Jinn why include this horrible card in to your GB deck. Your always a noob and always be Jinn: say what you want but ill still explain why - Spoiler:
Even though it’s a 1200atk which makes it really rough and hard to make tags with this card, it tag out effect is where it shines where it banishes 1 opponents card from game. In a metagame that needs graveyard to setup plays like mezuki, plague zombie and others. This card helps disrupt their plays and find another option in order to initiate what are they planning, in short terms, it slowing them down a bit. Besides, you can tandem this with test tiger’s effect or xyz it with murmillo/test tiger.
Run 1. (run 2 if you hate grave plays) Gladiator Beast Heraklinos“Introducing the king of the coliseum, weighing with 2800 def and with a deadlist blow of 3000atk, its Heraklinos!” - Spoiler:
Heraklinos has really huge stats though keep in mind you are giving up 3 GB’s in order to bring him out and he cannot tag out since he’s not scared of death like others which is a really high cost but, once heraklinos sits on the field, it becomes a statement that you wanna end the duel ASAP. Its effect to negate spell/trap (speed spell 2 or lower) by discarding a card puts players into a real rough situation especially if combined with chariot. It means no dark hole or BLS that can save them. Also try keeping chariot on the field with heraklinos aswell in order to keep locking down your opponent.
Run 2 (3 on focused Heraklinos build) Gladiator Beast Gyzarus“Infamous bird of all times that destroys 2 cards on the field, its Gyzarus!” - Spoiler:
this fusion card is the reason why bestiari is limited. Coming with a whopping 2400atk and a potential Icarus fodder, its effect is the reason why its incredible. Its destruction of 2 cards and tag out ability which Heraklinos cannot do. And instead of a 1monster tag out, its 2! It cant get any better. It also can dish out a darius, laquari and if you have a monster in grave, boom! Heraklinos out. Though gyzarus is prone to starlight road, stardust and other destruction protection, it is still the reason why GB is still in this meta.
Run 2 (3 if you can dish him out ASAP) Gladiator Beast Essedari- Spoiler:
It’s a fusion beatstick whopping in with 2500atk, though it doesn’t have any tagout/tag in effects, its requirements is the reason why this card is needed in this deck. In the past before when this card wasn’t released, GB players were afraid to tag out retiari or murmillo out because of their stats, Then they would need laquari or bestiary in order to boot up in a bigger monster. Essedari’s requirements is 2 any GB monsters which is really great.
Run 2 Gladiator Beast War Chariot- Spoiler:
You can ask other duelist about the worst card they ever faced in GB, 25% will say its Gyzarus and 75% would say its Chariot. Though its effect is simple. It negates the activation of a monster effect and destroys it. In short if you somehow bait stardust for example, u can chain chariot to it. Secondly, its name being a “gladiator beast” allows us to recycle it via equeste. And last detail but not the least it’s a counter trap card. Keep in mind to pair it up with a Beefy GB since you need a Gb in order to activate this card.
Run 2 ( GB players prefer 3) According to this section im not talking about other GB monsters since I don’t see their potential in today’s metaPotential themed cards Gladiator Beast Samnite- Spoiler:
Clawing in a 1600atk and a level 3 notable. When its tag out it powers up, by destroying a monster by battle with this card, u can search 1 GB CARD from your deck and add it to your hand(notable chariot is a GB CARD). It is also good to pair it up with horn of the phantom beast but it limits us to tag it in since it would be really pointless unless you really need to.
Run 2-3 in tigerless (0-1 in tiger builds) Test tiger- Spoiler:
Here's another support for GB, This card has huge advantages and disadvantages and players have been debating it for years. Test tiger can special summon itself when a GB is on the field. This effect ties in with its main effect, to tag out a GB monster you control and tag in almost any GB monster from your deck, even the one you just tagged out. It activates tag effects without the GB needing to battle. Test Tiger adds tons of speed and versatility to the GB deck. It is most popularly used alongside Elemental Hero Prisma to make an instant Gyzarus. It allows you to use tag effects during Main Phase 1, making the battle phase of that turn easier. And as a level 3 monster, its Summon effect can create a quick Rank 3 Exceed monster. But its downsides are that it hurts the consistency of the deck. A Test Tiger without a GB is a dead draw. A Test Tiger while top decking is a dead draw. And if Test Tiger is turned facedown before it can be tributed, it’s a wasted card. For some people, this loss of consistency is too much and they choose to not run any Tigers. Really, whether to use Tigers or not is a matter of metagame call and personal preference. Credit for pojo for explain this card in further details since I cannot find the right words for it. Run 0 in tigerless, 2-3 in Tiger builds. Gladiator Proving ground- Spoiler:
Basically it searches a GB from your deck and add it to your hand. Having no gb monsters is bad but having too much is worse. This card acts as a redundancy to the deck which means it also adds consistency. Players use this card to grab bestiary in order to bring out gyzarus if they have a GB on field, maybe laquari for beatstick power aswell.
Run 0-3 depending on build Elemental Hero Prisma- Spoiler:
One of the essiential cards in a tiger built gb deck. It allows to dump out the monster you are copying for its name. this card is very known for gyzarus plays and some heraklinos plays too. There is really nothing much to say about this card since its self-explanatory.
Run 0 in tigerless run 2-3 in prisma tiger builds Skeleton Tigerless- Spoiler:
3 laquari 1 bestiari 3 darius 2 equeste 2 samnite 1 murmillo 2 proving ground Staple spells ( dark hole,MST book of moon etc) 2 forbidden lance 3 horn of phantom beast 3 chariot
Hero GB buildI do see some builds of this and it is inconsistent as of stratos being banned so I will not further discuss this Fire Fist GB- Spoiler:
2 bear 1 gorilla 3 laquari 3 darius 2 equeste 1 bestiari 2 murmillo 3 tenki 2 tensu 1-2 proving ground 2 chariot Staples.
Prisma Tiger- Spoiler:
2-3 prisma 3 test tiger 3 laquari 3 darius 2 equeste 1 bestiari 1 murmillo 2 proving ground 1 ROTA 1 E-emergency call 3 chariot Regards/Concerns i know there are flaws in this guide. please pinpoint them (except support cards since i will be doing them in 2-3days) suggestions/comments/concerns are welcome Next 1-3 week deck overview Potentially Evols, Constellars, Agents , Fire Kings ,InfernitiesUntil Then |

| Haven't used gb's much but they are definitely something i wanna try soon. From glancing over the guide i noticed you overlooked the newest addition, Gladiator Beast Augustal, which looks pretty good, i'd run 1 at least.
Something else you might wanna include is support cards, like waboku. Another small addendum, although trivial, is the origin of some of the GB monsters e.g gyzarus is named after Gaius Julius Caesar, the former master and dictator of Rome (he also banged cleopatra) and Augustal is after his nephew octavian (augustus), the first emperor of the Roman empire. All of which can be found in the 'Trivial' page on the wiki.
Beside that the guide looks solid. |

| The guide is well written, I enjoyed reading it. I'll get back to it if I thought of any other adds here, I'm personally not a GB user, I ran them for a bit but it was just for fun, though I'm a fan of GBFist, they were my main few formats ago Thanks for the guide ~ |
